Euthanasia means to take a deliberate intention of
finishing a life to relieve an unmanageable situation from pain. Nevertheless,
some people are against euthanasia for their beliefs or culture; therefore actual
efforts to legalize it have developed multiples debates in our society, but why
should it be legal? According to the World Health Organization, an assisted
death allows any patient to set free from a physical pain, yet religion is not
in its favour due to the opinion they have about God. However, each person
should be able to decide when and how to die considering factors such as
illness, freewill, and dignity.
First of all, the main reason for being in favour of
euthanasia is the terminal diseases, taking into account that the mercy killing
releases the person from having an awful and painful life; it is a fact that
the victim under a terminal disease must carry on an expensive and long
treatment. Based on Statistic Brain, the majority of cancer patients wish their
life ending because they got the sensation of how that terrible morbidity is
killing them slowly; besides, their families also suffer with them because of
economic reasons; it means, for painkillers, transport, and so on. On the other
hand, euthanasia could avoid a huge suffering to the patient in cases like a bone
cancer, brain cancer, prostate cancer, and illnesses like that. For example,
Belgium allows the easy death for everybody even for children since owing to
being more aware of what euthanasia and life are. Although life is something
amazing, aid in dying should be considered as a part of it due to having a
patient sorrowing is not giving him a better quality of life, so that if
someone of my family or a friend desires to die peacefully, I would support him
due to choosing how we want to die is not an option that we all get.
Secondly, being a human makes you a free willing
person, regardless your age and genre, considering that the type of quality of
life is defined by the inmate, not by the doctors or government, thus if the
patient’s decision is to die, so be it. Furthermore, according to Statistics
Brain, the 54% of physicians from United States approved the euthanasia because
in many cases there are no solutions; even though if the doctors could offer to
the patient any kind of treatment or options, it is the patient who must decide
how long he wants to exist. Additionally, is there a point wasting your days in
a bed, and prolonging your family’s sorrow? When there is nothing that science
can do about it. By contrast, life is
something personal; hence if someone wishes to pass away, we ought to help him
with his last request. Alongside history, we have seen several cases wherein
the sick person has agreed with euthanasia like George V who was King of the
United Kingdom from 1910 until his death in 1936, and had a dreadful lung
disease, something that made him to decides on for euthanasia; indeed, he died
by a lethal injection of cocaine and morphine. As for if I ever see myself under
a terminal disease, I will not have any doubt of accepting it, owing to
euthanasia could give me away the best days of my life.
“Dogs do not have many
advantages over people, but one of them is extremely important: euthanasia is
not forbidden by law in their case; animals have the right to a merciful
death.” -Milan Kundera
Moreover, people agonizing cannot be autonomous due to
the powerful treatments, and mobility lost. When a patient is in an intense
sorrow or is under a severe mental anguish, our society will be doing more hurt
by keeping him alive than permitting him to die; in some cases like Brittany
Maynard, who had a brain cancer, decided to take euthanasia on November first
because she did not want to forget her husband and families faces, in view of
wishing to pass away with her complete memories; it means, her first time making
love, kissing, cooking, having fun. (This brain cancer over time will make her to
omit her whole lifetime, and at the same time she will have beyond all bearing
headaches) is that fair? Further, Statistic Brain says that the 86% of people
agree with euthanasia for terminal illness, and 56% of terminally ill patients die
beneath a terrible pain. Now, imagine yourself having a terminal cancer, which
in the future is not going to let you move where you want to; spooky and
terrifying, right? But with euthanasia the fact that you know when you are
going to die because we could die in a painless way, would not it be that
perfect? That is the reason we need to get euthanasia legalized.
All in all, life belongs to you, so it is your choice
when to stop it taking into account your sicknesses, freedom, and autonomy. In addition,
as I already said, I would like to die peacefully like Brittany Maynard
carrying with me my best recompilation of my funniest moments because if I did
know when I could die; for example, next week; every day of my life would be as
valuable as a million of yen; whereby If I were aware when I could die, I would
live my death, my choice and my life.
